If you make it to 24th Street and Park Avenue during Summer Streets on Saturday, August 19, 2017 try the Yasso Frozen Yogurt!!
Hi,SUMMER STREETS . . . 10TH ANNIVERSARY . . .
Your Weekly MaveSave is here once again . . . As I did last week, I'm opening this one with Summer Streets! Like so many great deals it's a recurring one! So, even if you missed the first two Saturdays of August, you can still walk, run, bike, scoot or skateboard (I didn't see many skateboarders, though) during the last Summer Streets this summer on Saturday, August 19th!
Yasso was delicious!! My husband, daughter and I devoured the yogurt bars and thought the S'Mores yogurt bar was divine!! Clearly, we weren't alone because they ran out of it before the other 3 types of bars were finished. When you ask for your bars, be sure to pick up the $1 coupon!
The Nature's Path Organic Bars were also delicious and well worth the exercise you had to do in order to receive one! I had to do 3 jumping jacks for a Blueberry Bar and my daughter did some lunges for her Chocolate Bar.
I think the noosa yoghurts were also a hit because there were none left by about 11:30 AM!
The Apple Banana GoGoSqueez, numerous flavors of Honest Tea and Cabot Cheese were also tasty!!
I will gladly continue talking about food (hint -- it happens twice a year) but of course, Summer Streets is about exercise and what protects your precious head better than a bike helmet? On 24th Street, they were giving away free DOT biking helmets. The line is very long but patience is a virtue! The link below shows you a picture of how you will have the helmet fitted when they give it to you. Thanks DOT!
This seems to be a year with some major anniversaries.

YAM (Yet Another Mave$ave) - Wonderful World Cup Watching!!! A Fantastic FREE Father's Day Festivity
YAM (Yet Another Mave$ave) - Wonderful World Cup Watching!!!
Whether you're a major football (or soccer) fan or just a general sports lover like yours truly, it can be fun to gather with friends to view an international sporting event like the World Cup! I can tell you that when the World Cup was hosted by South Africa just four years ago, my kids and I enjoyed going to see a match at the Paley Center with friends. It was a real blast! Let me say that when they say Big Screen, it really is one! Unlike the "big screens" in many bars, this big screen is more like a movie theater Big Screen than the flat screen you probably have in your living room!
Because, as they mention in their description below, this isn't a bar, you have a nice, family friendly environment for your kids and no requirement to buy a certain amount of beer in order to view the games!
This is why this could be a Father's Day Football Festivity. To see the schedule for tomorrow just look here . . .
Sun 6/15 11:30 am Switzerland vs. Ecuador 2:30 pm France vs. Honduras 5:30 pm Argentina vs. Bosnia-Herzegovina
The Paley Center is located between 5th and 6th Avenues on 52nd Street in the Museum of Television and Radio. Before and after your viewing, you're in a great part of town! For more info about the World Cup and this viewing, see below. Happy Father's Day!!

2014 FIFA World Cup
- The 2014 FIFA World Cup is the 20th FIFA World Cup, an international men's football tournament, that is currently taking place in Brazil. It began on 12 June, with a group stage, and is scheduled to conclude on 13 July with the final. It is the second time that Brazil has hosted the competition, the first being in 1950. Brazil was elected unchallenged as host nation in 2007 after the international football federation, FIFA, decreed that the tournament would be staged in South America for the first time since 1978 in Argentina, and the fifth time overall.

YAM (Yet Another Mave$ave) - Happy Memorial Day!! -- Discount Mart -- Save Big on Party and Picnic Goods!!
YAM (Yet Another Mave$ave)
Many of you know how much I enjoy going to discount stores to purchase items for the kids and our family! Well, during this season of Kiddie Birthday Parties and the warm up to Picnic Month (Who knew that June is officially Picnic Month?) . . . it is prime time to buy some of the decorations and other things that enhance the fun and frivolity of birtthday and holiday parties and all sorts of outdoor (and even indoor) gatherings!! Because of the blustery weather you might have moved your fun inside but don't let that stop anything!!
So . . . talk is cheap and so are the prices at Discount Mart!!!
Discount Mart is located at 7 West 14th Street, diagonally across from Party City. So many of the party supplies you buy here are really inexpensive -- look at the candles ($1.29 for 72 candles), balloons (8 12" helium quality balloons for $1.29) and even disposable table cloths ($1.49) here and you'll be stunned by their low prices!!
Their telephone number is 646 414-6262. Be aware of their refund/exchance policy. Like many other discount stores, their sales receipt states that there is no cash refund and you can only exchange within seven (7) days of your purchase.
But, let me end by saying that the cashiers are very pleasant!!
HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!!!

Free Summer on the Hudson Events this Weekend -- Irish Dance Festival just on Sunday, Zumba on Saturdays and Tai Chi on Sundays
YAM (Yet Another Mave$ave)
Don't all of these activities sound like a lot of fun?!! As you can see from my Blog, there are frankly so many fun, cheap and free things to do and see in and around New York City, that it's not humanly possible to partake in all of them! But, we do our best and hope you're inspired to also!!
Irish Dance Festival
When is it not fun to learn some new dance moves? I can't think of a time! Besides, the face-painting and children's craft table make this sounds like a great event for the kids!
Zumba
I've heard so many people talk about how much they love their Zumba classes so that's pretty intriguing. The 11 AM class time also seems pretty reasonable!
Tai Chi
Many, many years ago (BK - Before Kids) I took tai chi and it was all the things people had told me it would be -- great for balance and relaxing! It's certainly a fantastic activity -- especially for early birds who can make it there by 8 AM!

Free Comic Book Day this Saturday, May 4th
YAM (Yet Another MaveSave)
Free Comic Book Day is an annual promotional effort by the North American comic book industry to help bring new readers into independent comic book stores. Retailer Joe Field of Flying Colors Comics in Concord, California brainstormed the event in his "Big Picture" column in the August 2001 issue of Comics & Games Retailer magazine. Free Comic Book Day started in 2002 and is coordinated by the industry's single large distributor, Diamond Comic Distributors.
Free Comic Book Day is scheduled on the first Saturday of May. It has often been tied to the release of a major theatrical film adaptation of a well known superhero property, in order to take advantage of the film's heavy promotion and related press about the comic book medium.[1] On Free Comic Book Day, participating comic book store retailers give away specially printed copies of free comic books, and some offer cheaper back issues and other items to anyone who visits their establishments.[2] However, retailers do not receive the issues for free; they pay 12–50 cents per copy for the comics they give away during the event.[3] In addition to comic books, some stores also give away other items, including mini posters for live-action superhero movies, keychains, Green Lantern promo rings, etc.[4]
In its first six years, more than 2000 retailers in more than 30 countries have given away more than 12 million Free Comic Book Day special-edition comic books. The success of the promotion rests with each participating retailer. Most participants agree that Free Comic Book Day has been part of a healthier comics market and growing comic book sales over the last several years.[6][7] Free Comic Book Day has also garnered tremendous press coverage in all media helping the comic book industry.[8]
When I Googled Free Comic Book Day, Ask.com had this wonderful, full description of the origins and development of this delightful celebration. So, of course, I'm happy to share that info with you below!! Needless to say, a comic book loving family like mine can hardly wait (especially our son) to go to Midtown Comics this weekend to pick up some of these free comics. There are 3 locations of Midtown Comics and my son's research says that they'll all have free comic books.
We're regulars at Book Off and I really like buying the $1 Marvel and DC Comics that Book Off sells all year round (not just one day of the year like this event). But, what's better than a $1 comic book? A free one, of course!! I'm thinking that it will be like the thrill of snapping up those free comic books at Comic Con (just sans the hefty admission price)!
See you in the comic book stores on Saturday!! Enjoy!!

[edit] Purpose and effectiveness
Free Comic Book Day has three main purposes:[5]- To introduce everyone to the joys of reading comics.
- To call back former comic book readers.
- To thank current comic book buyers for their continued support.
In its first six years, more than 2000 retailers in more than 30 countries have given away more than 12 million Free Comic Book Day special-edition comic books. The success of the promotion rests with each participating retailer. [edit] History
The first event was May 4, 2002, just a day after the opening of the first Spider-Man movie. Linking the event with movies was somewhat controversial, as some believe that it implied the comic book medium was simply a promotional arm of the film industry.[9] However, successful Free Comic Book Day events in 2005 and 2006 did not have specific date tie-ins to comics-related movie openings, proving that the event is more than capable of standing on its own.Edition | Date | Associated movie |
