I can hardly believe how mouth-watering the pictures and descriptions of the food at these restaurants are . . . Wow!!! I just heard about this but plan to go to one of these places today!
I would check whether the restaurant you're interested in is open on the weekends if you plan to try one of them today. I noticed that Hatsuhana is closed today and Hatsuhana Park is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Reminder that Japanese Restaurant Week 2013 in New York City ends on Monday, March 18th, with 35 Japanese restaurants participating with special menus ranging from $12 to $15. This year’s theme celebrates the regional cuisines of Japan,Japanese Restaurant Week really is two weeks, Mar. 4-18, which gives you more lunch and dinner opportunities to sample a new Japanese restaurant, or return to a favorite.
Many participating restaurants are serving special “ekiben” bento boxes that include local Japanese dishes. Ekiben is Japanese fast food, sold at railway train stations in Japan, with local and regional favorites that vary within Japan’s 21 prefectures.

The two-week long restaurant week winds up with Japan Week in NYC, including a three-day festival in Grand Central Terminal March 19-21, with food, crafts and free Japanese cultural performances and demonstrations, and information about travel to Japan.
