GEICO Privileges

YAM (Yet Another MaveSave)

If you own a car or have home insurance you just might have GEICO Insurance.  But, did you realize that they have a program that allows you to save on many products?  I didn't either, until recently.  I haven't used any of their deals but when you start mentioning saving, I'm in! I'm sure it will only be a matter of time before I find a deal through them.

Like so many of my posts, this one makes me want to tell you about other upcoming posts!!  For example, I'm eagerly looking forward to sharing a post about AAA with all of you!  Like GEICO Privileges, AAA has movie ticket deals which my husband and I have been taking advantage of for many years (certainly more than a decade, easily)!!  I compared the discount prices under GEICO Privileges and AAA and the AAA prices were cheaper.  I don't know how other comparisons will work out, though.

In addition to saving, saving, saving, movies are another major passion of mine!!!  In my post on Movies, Movies, Movies, I'll discuss the various ways you can enjoy this fantastic form of entertainment for free or deeply discounted prices!!

Food, Food, Food!!!

YAM (Yet Another MaveSave)

Don't you just love it?  Clearly, I do, as you can tell from my Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate, Restaurant Week and Pizza posts!  There will be plenty more posts regarding food, I assure you!!

Food, like water is necessary so why not enjoy it?  But, like even water (particularly in some parts of town) food can be incredibly expensive!  This is why, like bagging your lunch to work, it can make a lot of sense to have snacks with you when you plan to be out and about in the City!  You may say easier said than done.   But, if you've had small children or just think about how much you can save, you might be able to find the inspiration to pack a few of your favorite snacks!

99 Cents Pizza

YAM (Yet Another MaveSave)

99 Cents seems to be the current "cheap" price point!  There are 99 Cents stores, 99 cents pizza and so on  and so on . . . it's like that old television commercial plug the announcer often yells at you excitedly that something "is only $9.99 so act now" instead of saying the product costs $10.  Be that as it may, I can tell you I've bought these pizzas for our family and we've enjoyed them!  I would gladly bring a whole pie to Bryant Park during the summer when our family would share a fun lunchtime knitting or watching Broadway performances in the Park.  It's Winter now but I can hardly wait for the warm weather (which is actually here today -- is it really going to 60 degrees today??) which means so many wonderful outdoor activities throughout the City!!

But, back to the pizza.  While the pizza is good (especially for the price) I've noticed some online reviews of people who have ordered delivery of 99 Cent Pizza.  I've never tried that and have always preferred to pick it up myself.  That's what I would suggest doing.

  • CVS

    YAM (Yet Another MaveSave)

As far as pharmacies go, I think CVS has good prices and multiple savings for you!  Like so many bargains, timing is important with your CVS purchases!  Normally, on Thursdays, CVS e-mails me 20% or 25% off coupons that are valid until that Sunday.  These coupons might require that you spend $20 but when you're buying the necessities you find in CVS, that's not hard.  I receive these e-mails because I have the CVS card, which is free so I suggest signing up for it.  You can just place the small version of the card on your key chain.  Also, if you're not the kind of person who's willing to print out coupons, you can just show the cashier your coupon on your Smartphone and avoid that hassle while saving money and time!!  I've done that myself although I generally print out the coupons.  That's convenient when you don't have the time to print out the coupons  . . .

Also, when your purchases reach a certain point, you'll receive Rewards Bucks that you can redeem on your next purchase!

I also find CVS brand products to be not only much less expensive than the name brands but very satisfactory!

    Riverbank State Park

    YAM (Yet Another MaveSave)

Like so many of the stores and institutions (like the Public Library) that I write about, Riverbank is filled with so many different activities and possibilities!  If you travel to 145th Street and Riverside Drive, you'll find numerous athletic and artistic activities to participate in here at prices you won't find on the rest of this fantastic island!

Costco Wholesale and Bob's Discount Furniture

    YAM (Yet Another MaveSave)

    Hi Everyone!!!

As you might imagine, I'm a big fan of wholesale shopping clubs!!  We have two active kids and we all like to eat, so wholesale shopping clubs make a lot of sense for us.  We belong to BJ's Wholesale as well.  But, in addition to the low prices for large quantities of  fruits, paper goods, soap and other toiletries, etc. --  for us there's a lot of convenience attached to the Costco on 116th Street below.  This is the long awaited wholesale shopping experience in New York City -- Manhattan!!  Manhattanites don't have to cross any bridges or pay a toll to ernjoy this bulk shopping!  In fact, you could take mass transit here.  There is parking inside this shopping center that you have to pay for but you can also park on the street.

Like with so many stores, like Macy*s, CVS, etc., there are times when there are one day sales or other sales.  I just received a coupon book from Costco about Savings from 1/31 - 2/24/13.

    Phones, Phones, Phones!!!

    YAM (Yet Another MaveSave)

What I've heard for years, was just confirmed again by a Verizon Wireless salesman. If you want to save money on your calling plan you need to inquire at least once a year about the best deals available at the time.  Back when I negotiated with the Phone Company regarding our land line, I was able to save a substantial amount by doing this.
